How quickly can my site be migrated?
Updated Oct 31st, 2017 at 11:16 GMT
Our Website Migrations is a free service and as a result we cannot guarantee a specific time frame on our shared hosting platforms. Migration requests get entered into a queue and tackled in order of submission by our dedicated team.
How soon do we start?
We usually say that migrations will be started within 48 hours, Monday to Friday. It is almost always quicker than this, however during busy periods it can take longer. Our support team are able to view the migrations queue and give you an indication of the time frame, however as the processing time varies with the size of the site, this will only be a rough estimate.
You can continue working on your website right up until the migrations process begins, at which point we will let you know by email. There is no downtime to sites during the process.
How long will my migration take?
When we start the migration we will let you know. The speed of the migration depends on a few factors, including:
- The size of your website
- The speed of the connection from your old host
- The complexity of the website
Websites usually take between one hour and two days to migrate.
Once the site is migrated, how long until it is live?
When the process is complete, we will let you know right away by email. At that stage you can update your DNS straight away. This puts your site live immediately, but DNS caching means that it might take new visitors around 24 hours to see it. You put the site live by changing the nameservers with your domain registrar (which might be us), or advanced users can change their individual DNS records.
