Xbackup issues

Updated Oct 31st, 2017 at 12:15 GMT

With our xbackup system on cPanel there are a few issues that can crop up occasionally. Here's a list of the common ones and what to do to fix them

No backup vault icon
This either means that the icon hasn't been added to cPanel or that the frontend hasn't been installed at all. You can check this by trying to access it manually (by replacing everything after /x3/ in the URL with /xbackup/). If you get a 404 then it isn't installed at all, if you see the interface the icon isn't added. Either way you'll need to ask a sysop to sort this for you.

No dates in backup list
If you see something like this when you access xbackup:

The most common cause is that the backup server which is actually taking the backups and the backup server the UI is trying to access don't match. If you have root access to the server you can edit /usr/local/cpanel/base/xbackup/func.php with the backupserver which is mentioned in the file /root/xbackup/backup_runner.php. If you don't, you'll need to ask a director or sysop to make this change for you.

Backups don't restore successfully

Sometimes a backup may seem to finish restoring but files/parts of the database is missing. If the site is particularly large that would indicate that the backup restore script is timing out. It is possible to restore backups manually through ssh, but this needs to be done carefully, so it's best to ask the help of someone who knows how to show you the process.
